Interior Painting

Walls, ceilings, trim, and doors painted clean. We cover your floors, prep right, and leave rooms tidy.

RCAG Professional House Painting Brother offers interior painting in Austin for homes and businesses. The work covers walls, ceilings, trim, doors, and closets. Most of an interior job is prep: filling holes, caulking split edges, and priming stains so the new color lays down even. Sheen gets picked room by room, because one color behaves differently in a hallway than it does in a bedroom.

Shiny Streaks on a Hallway Wall Usually Mean the Wrong Sheen, Not the Wrong Color

Flat paint hides bumps and old patches, and it also burnishes, which means it shines up wherever hands, shoulders, bags, and vacuum cleaners rub it. Eggshell and satin wipe clean and hold up in traffic. Semi gloss belongs on trim and doors, where a scuff needs to wipe off instead of soak in. Ceilings stay flat almost every time. Any shine up there turns every roller line into a shadow. Pick the finish by how the room gets used. Then pick the color.

A Brown Ring That Bleeds Through Fresh Paint Needs a Stain Blocking Primer

Water stains, smoke, ink, crayon, and the tannin in wood knots all travel through regular wall paint. You can roll three coats over a ceiling ring and watch it come back in a week. The fix is a stain blocking primer on the spot first, then paint. There is a second part to this. A water stain is a message, so find out whether the leak is actually fixed before anything covers it, or the ring returns with the water.

Going From a Dark Color to a Light One Takes Primer, Not Extra Coats

Deep reds, navy, and charcoal sit in a tinted base that keeps ghosting through pale paint. Piling on coat after coat of the finish color is the slow way and the expensive way. A gray tinted primer knocks the old color down in one pass, and then the new color covers the way the label says it will. It works in reverse too. Going light to dark, the primer gets tinted toward the new color so the finish coats do not have to do all the work.

Paint Peeling in a Bathroom Is a Moisture Problem First

Steam works its way behind the film, usually on the ceiling over the shower and on the wall beside the tub, and then it lifts. A better product helps some. An exhaust fan that runs during the shower and keeps running after helps more. Loose edges have to be scraped, then sanded so the repair does not telegraph under the light, then primed. Skipping that sanding step is why a patched bathroom ceiling looks patched forever. Homes across Austin and the towns around it have the same bathrooms and the same problem.

Roller Flashing Shows Up Where the Wet Edge Was Lost

Paint that dries before the next pass laps into it leaves a stripe you only catch at certain angles, usually in afternoon window light. Long walls and ceilings are where it happens most. Working in full sections and keeping a wet edge prevents it. Touch ups cause the same thing for a different reason: a dab from a different can, rolled with a different nap, dries to a slightly different texture and stands out from three feet away.

Trim Paint Dries in Hours and Cures Over Weeks

Dry means dust will not stick to it. Cured means the film is hard all the way through. In between those two points, a freshly painted door can stick to its jamb and a drawer can glue itself shut. Painters call that blocking. Give doors and windows time before shutting them tight, and go easy with tape, cleaners, and heavy furniture against the baseboards for the first couple of weeks.

Repainting the Inside of a House Is Not Permit Work in Texas

Texas does not issue a state license for house painters, and plain repainting is cosmetic, so it is not the kind of job a building permit covers. Permits attach to work that changes structure, wiring, or plumbing. One federal rule still applies: work that disturbs paint in housing built before 1978 falls under lead safe rules, so ask any painter how they handle an older home before sanding starts. If your project also moves a wall or a light, check with the City of Austin for your own address.

We paint interiors for homes and businesses, and our owner has 15 years of experience in the painting trade. If the walls need patching before color goes on, start with drywall repair. You can also see the nearby cities we cover before you call.
